Yesterday, out of nowhere, singer Dido announced on Twitter (amongst other mediums) she will release a new album March next year. Also announcing that she will start touring again for the first time in 15 years.
It was the first tweet, sent out from her account in over a year, and received hundreds of Retweets and likes in no time. Shortly after the announcement, Hurricanes, the first single, from the new album called ‘Still On My Mind’, was made available on several streaming services as well. With her distinct voice Dido’s songs always were instantly recognisable, and this is no different with Hurricanes.
The album is produced by her brother Rollo. As Rollo was the main producer behind the group Faithless, it is not a surprise the tracks are heavily electronic or synth-orientated. That doesn’t mean that it will be a danceable album. But the new single Hurricanes does have both a ballad and electronic feel nonetheless.
Rollo and Dido worked together in the past, and Dido featured on several albums by Faithless, co-wrote lyrics, and had the single One Step Too Far released with them as well.
Another connection Dido has with the electronic dance music industry in general, and trance in particular is that there exists some very good remixes of her songs on CD and vinyl. Examples are Above & Beyond’s Remix of Sand In My Shoes and the Gabriel & Dresden remix of Don’t Leave Home.
Another track she’s connected to, but not many know about, is the Darren Tate release under his Jurgen Vries-alias together with Andrea Britton, called Take My Hand. The original actually appeared as a bonus track on the first Dido-album No Angel.
Dido’s album Still On My Mind is scheduled for release March 8th, 2019. Her tour starts May 5th, 2019 in Prague, Czech Republic. More info can be found on her website: https://www.didomusic.com/
